Course Corrections - April 2026

Status Updates:

In the words of Paul McCartney, "I have to admit it's getting better."

What's Next:

The Wizard's Next Thing
I've been writing steadily for the last couple of weeks. Don't get too excited. I'm still not up to my old 10k a day but every day is a bit better than the last. Fingers crossed.

Future Ishmael
There will be. Some day.

Future Tanyth Fairport
Same with Tanyth.

What I'm Reading:

So much reading. Unfortunately, almost all of it falls into the "Next In A Series" category. Many of which I've talked about before, either here or on the website. Currently I'm hip deep in Wandering Inn 18, but I read off the end of the Towerbound series, caught up with Heretical Fishing, Homestead Crafter, Tunnel Rat, and Hidden Class: Handyman.

One series I haven't mentioned yet? John Walker's Old Man's Comeback and that's a serious oversight.

Being an old man myself, I can relate to this acerbic take on human-alien collaboration. Flip Kennedy frees a captured alien (because why not?), helps her steal her ship back from evil humans, and sets out on the adventure.

I'm only through book 3 (I got sidetracked) but I've enjoyed Walker's world building, careful character building, and sense of humor

But, as always, why not snag a sample and see for yourself.

Looking Ahead:

Yes! Looking back over the last month, things are going much better. I'm getting a handle on sleep, work, walking, and reading.

I've often said "If I'm not writing, it's because I'm not reading enough."

That axiom smacked me in the face last month when I realized I was down to about 10 hours a week from my normal 20-25. I've made it a point to step away from the keyboard (and Satisfactory) to dig into some of the new volumes in series I've enjoyed in the past.

I've also picked up a bunch of new-to-me authors that I hope to get to in the next month.

Net result: Regular writing sessions, exhumed my word sprint spreadsheet, and some set times for playing with Roger and company. I have only a rudimentary idea of where this story might be going. About the same level as I used to have with Ishmael.

I think - I hope - that's a good thing.

Time will tell.

Until next month, safe voyage.

Remember
I update the blog every month on the first so if you're wondering what's happening, you can check there to get an interim report until the next one shows up in your inbox.

Beta Readers:

Every so often, I put out a call for beta readers. These are people who are willing to read the work in progress in a short period of time with only the briefest of notices.

I'm going to be fine tuning this process going forward but if you'd like to be considered for future works, then click this link.

It puts a tag on your address in the email list. You don't have to check anything. The ConvertKit people (who store the addresses) will handle it and then take you to a page to tell you that your preferences have been set. By clicking that link you're done.

And thanks.

Fine Tuning:

Would you prefer to get ONLY new release notices? YES, PLEASE

Note: Newsletter people will get New Release notices, too, but
I've had several people say they preferred to only hear from me when I
release a new book so I'm trying to accommodate them.
