Status Updates:A month of disruptions and alarms broke the flow but the ideas keep tumbling by the dryer window of my mind. What's Next:The Wizard's Next Thing Future Ishmael Future Tanyth Fairport What I'm Reading: Even with the landscaping shenanigans, I found time to continue my streak of "next in the series" reading. Pick of the litter? Book 4 of Sarah J. Hoodlet's Way of the Wielder. Highly recommended. I also started weeding through a garden of space opera and found Scott Bartlet's I, Starship lurking among the weeds. The simple cover has passed my way several times but I just slid by it. I've been trying to wean myself off the litRPG lately to find more works that you, dear readers, might find more to your liking. The cover didn't sell it, but the description tweaked my imagination and made me add it to the queue of samples. This month it rose to the surface. A story of a man, a lawnmower to the face, and - many years later - finding himself locked into the hull of a starship about to embark on an 80 year journey. Of course, hijinks ensue. A martinet captain, a narcissistic computer programmer, and the odd stowaway (really, odd) are only the beginning. Did I mention the ravening horde of almost indestructible aliens in pursuit? Yeah. That, too. I did not get to book 2 yet but this first volume has me shuffling through my backlog a little faster as I look forward to finding out what happens next. But, as always, don't take my word for it. You'll find the sample here. Looking Ahead: So, yeah. City code enforcement - rightly - took me to task for some overgrown mugho pines and a weedy corner. Getting it all corrected took a few thousand dollars worth of expertise and labor, to say nothing of chagrin on my part for not noticing. I can be completely oblivious at times. Added to my ADHD that tells me "out of sight, out of existence" about everything everyday, it was a bit of a mess. I'd be more upset except for the fact that it really needed to be taken care of and the only way to do it was to keep looking at it. It's not all bad news. Looking at the manuscript, I can see where I was going and I've had the ending in mind since the start. Just getting from here to there? That's always the problem, isn't it? So this time spent with clippers and trimmers, tree pruners and irrigation specialists, has distracted me from putting words on the page, but given my tumble dryer brain to flash some interesting ideas past the window. I need to work on rebuilding that momentum again, but at least it looks like it might be a fun ride. Until next month, safe voyage. -NL Remember Beta Readers: Every so often, I put out a call for beta readers. These are people who are willing to read the work in progress in a short period of time with only the briefest of notices. I'm going to be fine tuning this process going forward but if you'd like to be considered for future works, then click this link. And thanks. Fine Tuning: Would you prefer to get ONLY new release notices? YES, PLEASE Note: Newsletter people will get New Release notices, too, but |
