Course Corrections - December 2025

Status Updates:

Finally, The Wizard's Cat has been released from his cage.

What's Next:

The Wizard's Cat
The ebook is out. I've send the particulars to the artist for the full wrap cover and only waiting to get the artwork. The internal formatting is done. I'll get it up as soon as I can. The manuscript has been sent to Podium to begin their production process which will take a while (months, not days).

Future Ishmael
Still no change here. Some days I have trouble focusing even on one thing, let alone more.

Future Tanyth Fairport
Still nada. See the note above.

What I'm Reading:

I stopped in at the Wandering Inn for book 17 and caught up on a few other series over the last month. Nothing new except for this author that kept showing up in various recommendations - including from you. A. K. DuBoff's Starship of the Ancients series.

I picked up the sample some time ago in a tranche of titles siphoned up in a single afternoon and lost track of it. It surfaced recently but I gave it a pass until one of you lovely readers drew my attention to it again.

A trope I like - found space ship with a friendly AI (fiction, of course) - and a plucky hero who finds himself caught up in an interstellar conflict between good and evil. I'm not sure who represents which faction yet. A tribute to DuBoff's skill as writer.

Love the characters, even the ones I hate. The world building is first rate. The plot has more twists than a jar of Twislers, but I'm here for it

But don't take my word for it. Maybe grab a sample of Stranded and see for yourself.

Looking Ahead:

The next month will be hectic here at Casa de Lowell. The usual holiday shenanigans with a major remodeling effort on the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. We've been chipping away at the prep work. The workman will arrive on the 28th to replace all the windows and external doors in the house.

Yeah.

I've done this once with a previous house and it's just as bad as you might imagine. We've done most of the outside prep work to make the windows accessible (pruning bushes and taking down awnings), but there are some details we'll be doing over the weekend before along with all the last minute moving of pretty much everything in the kitchen and most of the living room.

After that, my plan is to collapse.

Perhaps I'll have some solid plans by the next time I write but I'm not in any hurry to rush into a project yet. We'll see.

Until then, safe voyage.

Remember
I update the blog every month on the first so if you're wondering what's happening, you can check there to get an interim report until the next one shows up in your inbox.

Beta Readers:

Every so often, I put out a call for beta readers. These are people who are willing to read the work in progress in a short period of time with only the briefest of notices.

I'm going to be fine tuning this process going forward but if you'd like to be considered for future works, then click this link.

It puts a tag on your address in the email list. You don't have to check anything. The ConvertKit people (who store the addresses) will handle it and then take you to a page to tell you that your preferences have been set. By clicking that link you're done.

And thanks.

Fine Tuning:

Would you prefer to get ONLY new release notices?YES, PLEASE

Note: Newsletter people will get New Release notices, too, but
I've had several people say they preferred to only hear from me when I
release a new book so I'm trying to accommodate them.

A golden sun dominates the cover as a slender rocket powers away from a blue planet.

Status Updates: A month of disruptions and alarms broke the flow but the ideas keep tumbling by the dryer window of my mind. What's Next: The Wizard's Next ThingYeah. That lovely momentum? It died when I got embroiled in a civil code violation with the city over my landscaping. My momentum met a thicket of mugho pine. To be fair, they were right to call me on it.
