Course Corrections - March 2025

Status Updates:

The Discordian calendar seems most appropriate in our troubled times. Today is Prickle-Prickle, the 1st day of Discord in the YOLD 3191. The Ides of March in Shakespearean terms.

What's Next:

The Wizard's Cat
Treacle. Molasses. Tortoise? Pick a speed. No, slower. A few words a day. But there are words.

Future Ishmael
Still a "yes." Also still "later."

Tanyth Fairport
Unchanged. Still on the back burner.

What I'm Reading:

Gone are the 3 books a week days. Not sure what has tripped my breaker on reading. It's always been held in dynamic tension with game playing and writing, but it has been a while since I found a story that dragged me into its depths.

This month it's Stephan Morse's Continue Online.

Perhaps it's because the main story line concerns a troubled middle-aged man role-playing an established NPC who wasn't always a non-player character. The two faces - one virtual, one fictional - play against each other in a shadow play involving perceptions of reality.

I'm into book 3 already and find the sometimes humorous story strangely compelling.

But, as always, grab a sample (oh, wait, it's free!) and see for yourself.

Looking Ahead:

I've been working on consistency. Failing, obviously, but still starting each day with a plan for it.

Some days it works. Most days, it sputters along on two cylinders like a old, used car with faulty wiring and questionable gaskets.

In other email news, apparently my email got messed up at the host level and had stopped sending me replies to this address. In the constant barrage from other accounts, I never noticed until I saw that it had been 2 1/2 months since I heard from anybody. Spammers included.

It seems to be fixed now. Sorry about that.

Until next month, safe voyage.

Remember
I update the blog every month on the first so if you're wondering what's happening, you can check there to get an interim report until the next one shows up in your inbox.

Beta Readers:

Every so often, I put out a call for beta readers. These are people who are willing to read the work in progress in a short period of time with only the briefest of notices.

I'm going to be fine tuning this process going forward but if you'd like to be considered for future works, then click this link.

It puts a tag on your address in the email list. You don't have to check anything. The ConvertKit people (who store the addresses) will handle it and then take you to a page to tell you that your preferences have been set. By clicking that link you're done.

And thanks.

Fine Tuning:

Would you prefer to get ONLY new release notices?YES, PLEASE

Note: Newsletter people will get New Release notices, too, but
I've had several people say they preferred to only hear from me when I
release a new book so I'm trying to accommodate them.

Status Updates: The ground hog saw his shadow here and predicted six more weeks of writing before summer. What's Next: The Wizard's CatYes! Slow but steady will win this race. I'm back to writing almost every day and can see the story taking shape. It's still going to be a long slog as I rebuild my writing muscles but it's like any practice. Sloppy and misshapen but I begin to see real progress now. Future IshmaelStill planning on it eventually but no idea what, where, who, or how. Tanyth...

Status Updates: Year end/beginning finally behind me as I'm working on developing good practice for 2025. What's Next: The Wizard's CatIt's like watching ice melt but the story is slowly, slowly coming together. My new writing practice sees a little bit more of it revealed in each session. Some day I might get back to my mega-word count days. Operative phrase: some day. Future IshmaelI think more and more about what that might look like with Ishmael and Zoya striking out on their own, Pip and...

Status Updates: I'm back to writing every day. Getting back to basics. What's Next: The Wizard's CatI'm finally seeing some significant progress in getting this thing moving along. I'd hoped to have it drafted, at least, by year's end. I suspect you all did, too. Unfortunately, I've disappointed all of us. Future IshmaelNo change here. It's been tempting to shelf The Cat and go back to the Deep Dark. Unlike the situation with Cape Grace - which I put away several times over a number of years...
